Details
10 DIFFERENT COINS FROM THE REPUBLIC OF ECUADOR. Collectible coins were picked randomly from the numismatic periods: Sucre (1964-2000) and U.S. dollar (2000-2003). Each bag will have different combinations of coins, various dates, and conditions. You will receive Ecuadorian coins from 5 centavos to 1, 50 or 1000 sucres (the highest denominations at the different periods).
Various symbols may be found on the Ecuadorian coins, for example, portraits of:
Vicente Rocafuerte (Former President of Ecuador),
Simón Bolívar (Former Président de la Grande Colombie),
Isidro Ayora (a former Ecuadorian president),
Antonio José de Sucre (Venezuelan independence leader who served as the fourth President of Peru and as President of Bolivia. Sucre was one of Simón Bolívar's closest friends, generals and statesmen),
Eugenio Espejo (a medical pioneer, writer and lawyer),
Juan Montalvo (author and essayist),
José Joaquín de Olmedo (President of Ecuador, a patriot and poet),
Eloy Alfaro (politician who served as the President of Ecuador from 1895 to 1901).
There also may be symbols of the La Tolita culture (mask of the solar deity) and some buildings: a monument Ciudad Mitad del Mundo and a statue of the Valdivia culture (Venus de Valdivia).
Ecuadorian coat of arms meaning: In the background of the oval shield is the mount Chimborazo, while the river originating from its base represents the Guayas. They both symbolize the beauty and wealth of the respective regions (Sierra or Costa). The ship on the river is named Guayas as well. In 1841 it was built in Guayaquil and was the first riverine steamship built on the South American west coast; instead of a mast it features a Caduceus representing trade and economy. On top Inti in form of a golden sun surrounded by the astronomical signs for Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer representing the months March to July to symbolize the duration of the March Revolution of 1845. The condor on top of the shield stretches his wings to symbolize the power, greatness and strength of Ecuador. The shield is flanked by four flags of Ecuador. The laurel on the left represents the victories of the republic. The palm leaf on the right side is a symbol of the martyrs of the fight for independence and liberty. The fasces below the shield represents the republican dignity.
